Agbarho town for Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State turn wahala ground yesterday as angry crowd lynch one woman wey dem accuse say she wan kidnap one small pikin wey be just seven years old.

People wey see wetin happen talk say the matter start when dem raise alarm say the woman try carry pikin wey no be her own. Before anybody fit understand wetin dey happen, crowd don full everywhere.

“Dem just dey shout ‘kidnapper! kidnapper!’ People begin rush come. Na so dem hold the woman begin beat am anyhow. Nobody gree wait for police,” one witness tell Global Egberi Media International.

Dem beat the woman well-well, drag am go street, pour fuel for her body before dem set her on fire. Video wey dey social media show black smoke dey rise for sky as people stand look, some dey shout, some dey cry.

JUNGLE JUSTICE DON TOO MUCH

This kind thing no be first time e go happen for Nigeria. Mob justice don turn normal way for people to take settle matter — but na dangerous way.

Human rights people don talk say this kain thing na big crime and e dey very risky because person wey dem accuse fit even be innocent.

“This thing na wickedness. Even if she guilty, na police work to carry am go court, not to kill am like animal. Mob justice go turn everybody to judge and executioner and that one no go help society,” one human rights activist talk for Warri.

People wey sabi law still talk say those wey join hand do this thing fit face murder case and arson case because na big crime for Nigeria law.

POLICE NEVER TALK YET

Delta State Police Command never release official statement for press time but report talk say police don enter matter and dem wan find people wey do the lynching.

COMMUNITY PEOPLE DEY FEAR

Some Agbarho people dey happy say dem no allow the woman escape but many people still dey fear say this kain thing fit cause more wahala tomorrow.

“Today na she, tomorrow e fit be innocent person. Make we no turn ourselves to police and judge at the same time,” one elder wey talk with our reporter take warn.

TIME TO ACT FAST

This kind thing na serious call to government make dem:

  • Put better security and make police quick respond when people raise alarm.

  • Teach community people why mob justice no good.

  • Work on court and justice system make people get confidence say if dem report case, e go end well.

If we no act fast, people go continue dey take law for their hand — and e fit lead to more innocent blood for ground.

Our Take for Global Egberi Media International:
Protecting children dey very important, but to kill person for road no be justice. Make government, police and community work together make rule of law dey strong so that na court go judge case — no be street.
