In a powerful and thought-provoking message circulating on social media, Hon. C. S. Cotterell, popularly known as The Realist and Empiricist, has advised His Royal Highness, King Dokubo Asari, the King of Elem Kalabari-Torusaramapiri, to remain focused on education and developmental investments rather than being influenced by what he described as “uncivilized actions” by some contemporaries in the Niger Delta struggle.

The statement comes in response to the recent ₦10 billion donation by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, to the Delta State Government’s Security Trust Fund — a gesture Cotterell believes was more about public image than true empowerment.

According to Hon. Cotterell, while the donation may have been applauded by many, it reflects a misplaced priority in a region still grappling with poverty, youth unemployment, and underdevelopment.

“Chief Tompolo could have used that ₦10 billion to transform the lives of over 2,000 jobless or uneducated youths in his community or to further develop his immediate environment. Unfortunately, he chose to waste it on a government that doesn’t need the money, likely due to a lack of modern exposure,” Cotterell stated.

He urged King Asari Dokubo to remain steadfast and not to be drawn into what he termed “competition of influence” among Niger Delta leaders.

“Your Highness, you are far more educated and civilized than most of these contemporaries in the Niger Delta struggle. Please, do not follow their example of donating or wasting money just to attract public attention while your people and communities continue to suffer,” he said.

Hon. Cotterell commended King Dokubo Asari’s visionary efforts in promoting education and human capital development across Kalabari Kingdom. He lauded the King’s consistent financial support for university students, MSc, PGD, and PhD scholarship programs, as well as his monthly bursary scheme for Kalabari indigenes across tertiary institutions.

“Your efforts will be remembered forever. Please continue on this noble path and don’t be influenced by the uncivilized action taken by High Chief Tompolo in Delta State,” Cotterell concluded.

The statement has sparked wide conversations among Niger Delta observers, drawing attention to the growing contrast between leaders who prioritize long-term human development and those who make grand donations for political relevance.
