Attacking a Call for Peaceful Resolution by IYC Acting National Secretary Is Disrespectful, Baseless, and Inciting — Chief Whip of EYC 3rd Mobile Parliament Demands Public Apology

Warri North, Delta State — October 17, 2025

A strong reaction has trailed the recent publication made by Comrade John Okiriji, Youth President of Adoloseimo No. 2 Community, against the peace resolution statement issued by the Acting National Secretary of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Ambassador Egelu Edise-emi Bright.

The Chief Whip of the Egbema Youth Council 3rd Mobile Parliament, Hon. Maiku ThankGod Duinbaikiyo, has described the publication as disrespectful, baseless, barbaric, and inciting, insisting that it is unbecoming of any youth leadership structure in such a sensitive period of reconciliation between the two Ijaw kingdoms.

In a message made available to Global Egberi Media International via WhatsApp, Hon. Duinbaikiyo said the attack on Ambassador Bright’s peace appeal was both misguided and dangerous to the collective quest for harmony in the area.

Peace Message Misinterpreted Out of Context

According to Hon. Duinbaikiyo, the statement issued by the Acting National Secretary of the IYC Worldwide was a sincere and balanced call for peace, unity, and reconciliation — aimed at ending hostilities between the affected communities and preventing further loss of lives and property.

“It is disheartening and appalling to see anyone misrepresent or tarnish the image of the Acting National Secretary by describing his message as one-sided or biased,” Duinbaikiyo said.

“As a son of both Egbema and Arogbo Kingdom, Amb. Bright has consistently chosen neutrality, guided by his position and a deep sense of justice and peace.”

He condemned attempts by certain individuals to twist the intentions of the Acting National Secretary, warning that such actions were capable of inflaming tensions in already volatile communities.

Recalling Past Acts of Peace and Intervention

The Chief Whip recalled a major incident that took place on September 27, 2024, during the Arogbon Day Celebration, involving a violent altercation between two men — one being the uncle of Comrade John Okiriji and another from Kokotoru community.

“During that period, both men inflicted machete wounds on each other and reported the matter to the Arogbo Police Post. One was detained while the other was hospitalized,” he explained.

He noted that the IYC Acting National Secretary, Amb. Egelu Edise-emi Bright, immediately intervened, personally visiting both the police post and the clinic, engaging the DPOs of both Arogbo and Koko Divisions to mediate peace.

“Ambassador Bright’s swift action led to the treatment and eventual release of both parties — a clear show of fairness and maturity that prevented further escalation,” Duinbaikiyo recounted.

He said it was unfortunate that someone who had demonstrated such neutrality and compassion could be wrongly accused of bias by individuals who lacked proper understanding of the situation.

Reckless Statements and Dangerous Precedents

Hon. Duinbaikiyo expressed concern over what he described as a recurring pattern of recklessness from the youth leadership of Adoloseimo No. 2 Community.

“In the past, the same group of youths issued a provocative statement that triggered the killing of an innocent young man by a security agency on patrol — a victim who had no connection with the crisis,” he recalled.

“It is shocking that today, the same individuals have again released another baseless and inciting publication, this time attacking a peace-driven message from the IYC leadership. This is both unfortunate and unacceptable.”

He warned that such habitual provocation and inflammatory rhetoric are dangerous and capable of plunging communities back into chaos.

A Demand for Public Apology

Hon. Duinbaikiyo, speaking in his personal capacity as Chief Whip of the EYC 3rd Mobile Parliament, demanded an unreserved public apology from Comr. John Okiriji and the leadership of Adoloseimo No. 2 Community to the Acting National Secretary of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide.

“It is the right and honorable thing to do,” he said.
“Leadership demands responsibility, and when a statement goes wrong, an apology restores credibility and promotes healing.”

Commitment to Peace and Lawful Conduct

Reiterating his unwavering commitment to peace and lawful conduct, Hon. Duinbaikiyo revealed that even when criminal suspects had been apprehended in the past within the troubled region, they were handed over to the Koko Divisional Police Station in Delta State — underscoring his belief in due process and justice.

“Peace remains our top priority. We will continue to uphold it, no matter the provocation,” he affirmed.
“Violence has never solved any issue. Dialogue, understanding, and forgiveness remain the true paths to progress.”

Conclusion

Hon. Maiku ThankGod Duinbaikiyo concluded by warning that the continued reckless behavior of certain youths in Adoloseimo No. 2 reflects a lack of visionary leadership and a dangerous tendency to create chaos where peace exists.

He reaffirmed his confidence in Amb. Egelu Edise-emi Bright’s leadership and the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, emphasizing that no amount of misrepresentation would derail their commitment to restoring lasting peace across Ijaw territories.
