SUG DSPG Commissions 100-Seater Classroom and Aluta Jet, as NADESSTU Donates Chairs to Lecture Halls — Rector Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu Commends Student Development InitiativesIn a landmark event that showcased the spirit of service, innovation, and student leadership, the Student Union Government (SUG) of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku (DSPG) has successfully commissioned a 100-seating capacity classroom and presented an Aluta Jet (official vehicle) to enhance students’ union activities on campus.
The colorful ceremony, which held within the Polytechnic premises, was presided over by the Rector, Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu, who led other top management officials including the Deputy Rector, Bursar, Dean of Students, Dean of the School of Applied Sciences, Director of Academic Planning, Dean of General Studies, Head of Department of Science Laboratory Technology, and numerous academic and administrative staff members.
Also in attendance were executives of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU), DSPG Chapter, who demonstrated their commitment to academic advancement by donating chairs to two lecture halls — one newly completed hall and another within the School of Business and Management Technology Complex.
The SUG executives, in their address, described the Rector as “a building,” symbolizing strength and support, adding that their actions were simply a reflection of his visionary leadership. “We are only acting like our father,” they said, noting that the 100-seater classroom and Aluta Jet donation were part of their drive to support academic excellence and improve student welfare.
Speaking at the commissioning, Rector Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu praised the students’ exceptional sense of responsibility, describing their gestures as “a perfect example of proactive leadership.” He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also skilled and employable.
“At Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, every student graduates with two certificates — one for their course of study and one for a vocational skill,” he stated proudly.
Prof. Achuenu also revealed that the Polytechnic has been conducting electronic voting for students’ elections for over three years, a system that has completely eradicated violence and malpractice during elections in the institution. He called on Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to adopt a similar model of electronic voting, stressing that it would help curb electoral fraud and violence in the country.
In his closing remarks, the Rector applauded both the SUG and NADESSTU DSPG Chapter for their bold and progressive initiatives, urging other student unions nationwide to emulate their example of accountability, innovation, and service-driven leadership.
