Fresh Tragedy in Kokotoru as Man Ambushed and Killed — Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi Calls for Calm and Investigation

Tension has once again gripped the Adoleseimoh2–Kokotoru riverine axis following the tragic death of a Kokotoru indigene who was ambushed and fatally attacked earlier today. Eyewitnesses report that the victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Abere Community for urgent medical attention but, unfortunately, died from excessive bleeding before help could arrive.

This fresh tragedy compounds earlier unrest in the area. Just over a month ago, one Adoleseimoh2 indigene was confirmed dead, while another went missing and remains unaccounted for to date. During that previous incident, some fishing settlements were burnt down at Kokotoru, displacing families and intensifying community tensions.

Although no direct confrontation has been officially confirmed between Adoleseimoh2 and Kokotoru, the persistent loss of life has unsettled both communities. Locals describe the atmosphere as tense, with fishermen and traders restricting movements for safety. Fear now hangs thickly over these once-bustling river settlements.

Speaking on the development, community advocate and academic, Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi, condemned the recurring violence and urged the authorities to act immediately.

“The continuous shedding of innocent blood must stop. I call on the leadership of Arogbo Ibe and Egbema Kingdom, together with the Delta State and Ondo State Governments, to act decisively — investigate these killings, strengthen local security, and restore lasting peace,” said Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi.

Dr. Agbedeyi appealed to residents of both communities to remain calm and allow security agencies and traditional leaders to carry out their investigations. He emphasized that retaliation would only worsen the pain and divide the people further, urging everyone to support peace initiatives aimed at lasting reconciliation.

Local elders have also joined the call for calm, asking residents to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure justice and prevent further bloodshed. As of this report, the Adoleseimoh2 resident who went missing over a month ago is still unaccounted for, while the community mourns today’s Kokotoru victim who died despite being rushed to Abere.

Key Points:

  • Victim: Kokotoru indigene (identity withheld pending family notification).

  • Incident: Ambushed and fatally injured, died en route to Abere.

  • Previous cases: One Adoleseimoh2 resident dead, another missing, and fishing settlements burnt.

  • Official response: Awaited from Delta and Ondo State authorities.

  • Community plea: End the cycle of violence and strengthen peace dialogue.

Moral Appeal:
This is a time for unity, not vengeance. The pain of one community is the pain of all. True strength lies in restraint and in working collectively for peace.
