Warri, Delta State — October 19, 2025
It was a defining and action-packed week for the administration of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as he rolled out bold reforms, developmental projects, and security initiatives that underscored his visionary leadership and deep commitment to sustainable growth across the state.
Despite the heavy rains, Oborevwori’s administration pressed forward with remarkable determination — symbolizing progress even amid challenges. His activities throughout the week mirrored a leadership style driven by inclusiveness, transparency, and results-oriented governance.
Security as the Foundation of Growth
The week began with a decisive declaration of intent as Governor Oborevwori launched the Delta State Security and Peace Committee at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba.
The initiative, which brought together leading security chiefs, business stakeholders, and youth representatives, was designed to strengthen intelligence gathering and sustain peace across all 25 Local Government Areas.
He emphasized that security remains the cornerstone of Delta’s economic vision, stressing that no community can thrive in chaos.
“If we must attract investment, create jobs, and grow sustainably, peace and security must be our foundation,” the Governor declared.
He assured that his administration’s 0.5 percent allocation from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is being channeled directly into security agencies and that every fund will be transparently managed to safeguard lives and properties.
A Crackdown on Criminality
The Governor’s tough stance on insecurity took practical shape when the Department of State Services (DSS) in Asaba intercepted a cache of sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles and hand grenades, from criminal elements.
Visibly impressed by the intelligence coordination, Oborevwori commended the DSS for their vigilance and resilience, ordering a statewide crackdown on organized crime. He reiterated his administration’s resolve that there will be no hiding place for criminals in Delta.
“Those who intend to disrupt the peace of Warri or any part of Delta should desist immediately. Crime and criminality are a direct threat to our collective peace,” he warned.
Infrastructure Renewal: From Vision to Concrete
Transitioning from security to development, Governor Oborevwori performed the groundbreaking for the reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Dual Carriageway at Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas.
The project, valued at ₦110 billion, was described by the Governor as a “symbol of renewed partnership between the Federal and Delta State Governments.”
He emphasized that the road project is not just a physical asset, but a lifeline for economic connectivity between rural and urban centers, easing traffic flow and promoting commerce across the region.
“This road is more than asphalt and drainage systems,” Oborevwori said. “It represents connectivity, opportunity, and inclusion.”
The Governor disclosed that the construction company had already received 60 percent of the project payment in advance — an action he said reflects his administration’s zero tolerance for contract variations and commitment to accountability.
Economic Vision and Developmental Drive
Governor Oborevwori tied the road reconstruction project directly to the state’s economic and security agenda, noting that bad roads often provide cover for criminals. By improving infrastructure, he said, the administration is enhancing both mobility and safety for residents.
He reaffirmed that the project aligns with his MORE Agenda — Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
Against All Odds: Development in the Rain
Despite torrential rainfall, Oborevwori’s drive for development continued unhindered. On Thursday, in Ughelli North Local Government Area, he inaugurated yet another key infrastructure project designed to strengthen rural-urban connectivity.
He declared:
“We don’t owe any contractor. All payments are done within 14 working days after certification. That is the prudence and discipline we have brought into governance.”
This strong emphasis on financial prudence, transparency, and effective partnership with both local and international stakeholders has become the hallmark of his leadership in Delta State.
A Symbolic Week of Progress and Partnership
Throughout the week, the Governor received praise from prominent Deltans, including High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), who attended the event as Special Guest of Honour, and other dignitaries such as Access Holdings Chairman, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, and Zenith Bank Founder, Mr. Jim Ovia.
Their presence symbolized a renewed confidence in Oborevwori’s administration and its reformist direction. The Governor’s ability to bridge political, economic, and civic divides continues to win him accolades as a unifier and reformer.
Editorial Reflection: What Oborevwori’s Leadership Symbolizes for Delta’s Future
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership is proving to be a fusion of humility and firmness, combining people-centered governance with practical action. His commitment to peace, infrastructural growth, and fiscal discipline reflects a rare kind of governance in today’s political climate — one anchored on continuity, inclusiveness, and accountability.
The Governor’s resilience, even under harsh weather, has become symbolic of Delta’s new direction — a state refusing to be slowed down by challenges. His focus on both security and development sends a clear message: that sustainable progress begins with peace and thrives on partnership.
In Oborevwori, Deltans are witnessing a leadership era where action speaks louder than promises — and the results, even in the rain, are visible.
