Tunisian Man Get Death Sentence Because of Facebook Posts Criticising President, State Security

Wahala burst for Tunisia as court don sentence Saber Chouchane, 56-year-old labourer, to death just because im write some Facebook posts wey talk against President Kais Saied and state security.

Dis judgement shock everybody because e never happen before for Tunisia, and e show say free speech for di country don dey waka for dangerous road since 2021 when Saied carry almost all power by himself.

Wetin Happen

Lawyer wey dey defend Chouchane, Oussama Bouthalja, talk say di man no even get big education, e just dey use Facebook express him mind like every other citizen. Na last year dem arrest am, and now judge for Nabeul court don drop heavy death sentence.

“The judge sentence di man to death because of Facebook posts. Dis one na serious and shocking ruling,” Bouthalja yarn give Reuters. Appeal don already dey go on.

Di family sef dey cry say life don too hard for dem, now na oppression join poverty. “We no fit believe am,” na wetin Jamal, Saber brother, talk.

Reaction and Outcry

Even though Tunisia law still get death sentence inside, dem never carry out any execution for over 30 years. So di ruling wey dem give now dey look like intimidation — dem wan use fear hold people mouth shut.

Social media don scatter as activists and normal citizens dey blast di ruling. Dem talk say dis na deliberate plan to silence critics of President Saied.

Tunisia Matter Since 2021

Since di day Saied dissolve parliament and begin rule by decree, Tunisia don dey collect bad name. Opposition parties don dey shout say na coup e do.

Dis na same Tunisia wey people dey hail before as example of Arab Spring success, but now e don dey slide back into dictatorship style governance.

Why E Serious

Di case don show say free speech dey under heavy threat. If ordinary labourer wey just dey write him mind online fit face death penalty, e mean say tomorrow anybody fit collect same treatment.

Human rights groups go soon pile pressure on Tunisian government to cancel di ruling and respect democracy. For now, Chouchane dey wait make appeal decide him fate, but di matter don already raise big wahala across Africa and beyond.
