The ancient and culturally rich Opuama Community, one of the major oil-producing communities in Egbema Kingdom, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, has formally announced the 11th edition of its revered Oloduwa (Progenitor) Day Celebration. This annual festival remains one of the most significant gatherings in the Ijaw nation—an event dedicated to honouring ancestral heritage, promoting unity, and celebrating the cultural resilience of the people.

This year’s celebration—scheduled for Friday 12th and Saturday 13th December 2025—is expected to attract cultural enthusiasts, traditional institutions, stakeholders from the Niger Delta, and lovers of Ijaw heritage from across Nigeria and beyond.

According to the community leadership, Oloduwa Day is not just a festival; it is a spiritual and cultural reconnection with the founding progenitors of Opuama land.

A Celebration Rooted in Tradition and Communal Pride

The 2025 edition promises a blend of traditional rites, cultural displays, music, sports, and spiritual reflection. The festival is designed to showcase the beauty, strength, and unity of the Ijaw identity while reinforcing the communal bond that has sustained Opuama for generations.

A powerful gathering of churches and spiritual leaders to bless the land and open the festival in thanksgiving.

A friendly sports competition aimed at strengthening peace, sportsmanship, and youth engagement.

🔹 Musical Performance by King Pereama Freetown JP, Numu-pere ll of lzon-Ibe and His Band
A thrilling night of live music and entertainment featuring one of Niger Delta finest musical icons.

🔹 Bayelsa Cultural Group Display
A colourful cultural parade showcasing Ijaw dance steps, attire, and traditional rhythms.

🔹 Storytelling Cultural Presentation
Oral history sessions that bring to life the stories of Opuama’s founding fathers and cultural evolution.

🔹 Commissioning of Completed Community Projects
A highlight moment celebrating local development efforts and community-driven progress.

🔹 Live Music by Alfred Izon-Ebi & His Because of Love Band
A grand musical performance to round off the celebration in true Niger Delta style.

Leadership Support and Recognition

The 11th edition of Oloduwa Day comes with renewed blessings and a strong display of community leadership.

The Planning Committee Chairman, Hon. Spencer O. Okpoye, Commissioner representing the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in DESOPADEC, emphasized that this year’s event is a reflection of Opuama’s unity and cultural pride.

Also speaking, a member of the Media and Publicity Committee, ThankGod Ugedi, extended heartfelt invitations to the Ijaw nation, friends, lovers of culture, and the general public to join this year’s grand celebration.
